The Bata Shoe company, one of Czechoslovakia’s most successful companies, founded a satellite factory and a garden city in East Tilbury beside the Thames. John Tusa’s father was the managing director from 1939 to 1969. This is the story of the company’s success, Bata’s vision and ambition, and the people who worked for him.
Sir John Tusa is a broadcaster, journalist, arts administrator and author of numerous books. His latest title is Making a Noise, an autobiography.
