Join us on the very eve of the Yalta Agreement, to consider some of the seemingly disparate events that preceded and led to the crucial and far-reaching meetings, held from 4-11 February 1945. Yalta, then a small place close to the Back Sea, but of immense significance regarding the political, economic and societal future of the post-war world.

Focusing on Europe, Dr Thomas Lorman (SSEES) will present an overview of the Yalta Agreement, its impact and some of its consequences, and also refer to Hungary. Mimi Kuttelwascherová will cover of the three powers’ experiences at the meetings follows. Gerry Manolas, chair Memorial Association for Free Czechoslovak Veterans, will speak of their sacrifice and show part of historian Dr George Scott’s film, ‘Good Intensions’.
