February 2025 marks the 80th Anniversary of the Yalta Conference which led to countless people perishing behind the Iron Curtain when they were repatriated to the USSR at the conclusion of the Second World War.
You are warmly welcomed to attend an exhibition at Kensington Central Library curated by the archivist, Sophia Hall, and a talk by Mimi Kuttelwascherova and Dr Jana Buresova exploring the impact of the Yalta Conference and the importance of the Yalta Memorial, the Twelve Responses to Tragedy, located in the Yalta Memorial Garden on Cromwell Road in South Kensington.
Her story “Good bye King Wenceslaus” was a winner in The Penguin 2007 Decibel prize: true stories of immigrants.
Dr Jana Buresova has spoken and published about exile-related issues and is the author of The Dynamics of Forced Female Migration from Czechoslovakia to Britain, 1938-1950.
The event is free and will be held in the Lecture Theatre in Kensington Central Library. Please register via the Eventbrite link below.
